Harper Creek High School Family,

We were informed on Thursday, September 10, 2020 that a staff member at Harper Creek High School had tested positive for COVID -19. In consultation with the Calhoun County Public Health Department, Harper Creek High School was closed Friday, September 11, 2020 for in-person instruction and all athletic activities canceled while the public health department completed the contact tracing investigation. Students and staff continued instruction virtually.

The Calhoun County Public Health Department contacted individuals considered to be a close contact and directed them into a quarantine.  These contacts were students and staff members.  Quarantined students will transition to remote learning with their current schedule and teachers until their quarantine period ends. If you did not qualify as a close contact, you were not contacted. Harper Creek Community Schools and the Calhoun County Public Health Department strictly protect the confidentiality of quarantined students and staff and we request that all individuals do the same.

At this time, we continue to move ahead under the guidance of the Calhoun County Public Health Department and all measures have been taken, and will continue to be taken to protect the well-being of our staff members and students. Exposures did not occur because of a lack of safety and health precautions, or inadequate cleaning.

Regardless, the High School building will be completely and thoroughly cleaned and sanitized again, and we will be ready to safely resume in-person learning on Monday, September 14, for students and staff members who have not been directed to quarantine.

Please monitor for onset of symptoms related to COVID-19, including cough, shortness of breath, fever (temperature > 100.4°), chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell. If you note any change in the health of your child, please contact your regular medical provider.

Thank you for your continued commitment to keep our students and one another safe and to continuing to move education forward during these challenging times.
